The Pixies: Gigantic
It's hard to believe this was from twenty years ago! A year later Nirvana would have their first minor single, but this sort of sound didn't break through until about 1991.

Christmas is over but this animated video by Angel Yau is a wonderful self portrait. The film has some very crude production values but that's very much it's charm, it's one of the few short films that ever made me want to cry.
I came across the cute looking stationery set above while looking April 2008 offerings from Dark Horse:
"As a kid, Red Tango founder Cynthia Petrovic drew animals and made cartoons and flip books. As an adult she progressed from portraiture to animation, and joined the ranks of TV animators at Warner Brothers. After many years of honing her skills, Cynthia decided to create a line of products featuring her wacky, retro artwork. Now we’re delighted to team with her to add a journal and stationery set to her line."
If you ever see street art with a tag (like unplate shown above) just go to Flickr and do a tag search on the artist's name. I'm always amazed at how much I discover...

I think Amy should come to Williamsburg to cut the album:
Amy Winehouse mulling album of 'cool' Hanukkah hits, producer says
"Amy Winehouse could be the next British Jewish songstress to enter the mid-winter holiday spirit, with a collection of Hanukkah tunes. Winehouse's producer, Mark Ronson, told Rolling Stone magazine this week that the two had discussed an album of Hanukkah and Christmas songs.
"She was kind of f**king around, but I was like, 'You have all these amazing records to play for Christmas, like Motown and Carla Thomas and the Charlie Brown Christmas, and unfortunately, us Jews have nothing that cool to listen to. So we should do something," Ronson told the magazine."
Rachel Lauter from Greenpoint/Williamsburg for Obama just clued me into this event for Sunday:
What: Visibility for Obama!
When: Sunday, January 20th from 2- 5 pm
Where: Meet us at the Bedford L Train Platform (it's supposed to be very cold outside...). Look for conspicuous Obama supporters.
I'm always amazed at how much history there is in "Non-Colonial Williamsburg". Shown above is a double exposed print I made of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, which is now owned by HSBC. This local landmark was constructed between 1870 until 1875, with additions as late as 1925. For more details on the bank go here...

What a great idea! Design Police is a website that allows graphic designers to print out labels so they can critique examples of bad design that they see in public.
